Analysis through Comparison

Borders as Models

Borders are political constructs designed to demarcate the boundaries of countries. They carry significant cultural, political, and economic symbolism. Funds constantly flow in and out of them, debates over their legitimacy are ongoing, and the border influences the daily lives of the people living near it. The border, as a simple line, is an oversimplification of a much larger context. This analysis serves as a type of ‘show-and-tell’ that reveals that context. It aims to demonstrate the vast implications of the events surrounding the border through juxtaposition,

A Model of A Model

A Model of A Line, a Model of Politics

Our representational analysis aimed to create a ‘Model of a Model.’ This involves the object of analysis as the original model of each of the borders, represented as lines or demarcated points, modeling a series of events that occurred at these locations in a diorama. The scale is approximately 1/4” = 1’-0”, allowing the events to be viewed at full scale. The model serves as a as a starting point for conversational pieces designed to foster a larger discussion of themes and ideas related to the territories.  As well as what we found in our own research.
